Warhol painted the Shadow Paintings in 1978. I have been looking these paintings a lot recently, they occupy an interesting area between representation and abstraction. As Julian Schnabel puts it "There is almost nothing on them. Yet they seem to be pictures of something,"
Warhol described the paintings as "Disco Décor".
